Behavior Counselor - Non-Public School

The Behavior Counselor addresses and manages the needs associated with special education students in the Childhelp Non-Public School (NPS) and provides consultation, individual and group counseling, one-on-one crisis intervention and classroom support. The counselor also provides training to staff, parents and students in behavioral management methods, facilitates intervention planning and implementation in partnership with teachers, staff, administration and primary caregivers and counselors, as well as provide streamlined communication between the child's family or guardian, school and other interested stakeholders. The Behavior Counselor also performs any other related functions as needed or directed.
Essential Functions:
Attend and participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings (as needed), as well as school, and other meetings as they relate to a child's education.
Provide educationally-based individual and group counseling
Develop, assess, implement and monitor the program of Behavior Support Plans
Recommend behavioral strategies based on needs of special education students
Communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, administration, clinical team, and other service providers
Identify appropriate procedures and use sound clinical judgement when working with disruptive, abusive and dangerous behavior
Develop and implement training programs for teachers and staff on managing children's behaviors
Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Applied skills in special education disability services and laws
Master's degree in education, behavioral sciences, child development, or other related field in addition to one of the following: Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Psychology, PPS Credential in School Counseling, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
OR fully licensed or intern license Marriage Family Therapist or Professional Clinical Counseling
Applicants enrolled in a program to complete these requirements will be considered
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing at a Masters and Professional level

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
