A Parent Partner is a biological, foster, adoptive or kin parent, a legal guardian or an individual who has stood In Loco Parentis and who has exhibited exceptional qualities and abilities in his/her own efforts to reunify and develop viable permanency plans for a child or children who have received or been the beneficiary of mental health, behavioral, or Special Education services through the child welfare systems in any state. The Parent Partner, drawing on shared experience shall be a role model for and work directly with parents and families advocating for and assisting them in successfully navigating the system by engaging them in their case plan activities and develop clear understanding of the issues that brought the family to the attention of the child welfare system. The Parent Partner is member of the multi-disciplinary team who shall engage professionally with, and provide individualized, creative and strength-based approaches to develop the skills and abilities of families with a child or children in the child welfare system to successfully overcome the inherent challenges and maintain the child or children in the least restrictive environment.
Minimum:
Preferred:
At least 21 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education desirable.
Possess a current, valid and unrestricted California Driver's License and reliable transportation.
Obtain fingerprint-based background screening clearance on each of FBI, DOJ and Child Abuse Index.
Be the biological, adoptive, kin parent, guardian, or an individual who as stood In Loco Parentis of or for a youth with emotional or behavioral challenges and/or have relevant life experience successfully navigating the child welfare system with their child (i.e. CPS, mental health, child welfare, probation and special education) in any state.
Knowledge and understanding of child development, behavior management, parenting techniques, and the importance of cultural diversity with a non-biased or non-judgmental approach.
Knowledge of and personal experience with the level of care required by the youth and families to which the incumbent is assigned.
Possess the necessary communication skills to enable the incumbent to engage families in discussions to provide guidance and direction. Bi-lingual, Spanish speaking is desirable.
Possess the computer literacy and writing proficiency necessary to create required documentation for the program.
Bachelors in any field of study.
Education in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or other behavioral or social sciences field.
Previous experience as a Peer Partner or Peer Counselor in the mental health field.
Previous experience in mental health, addiction and chemical dependency, and effective strategies for dealing with its effects.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
